West Reading Fashion Show raises money for Family Promise of Berks

West Reading businesses came together to support local nonprofit Family Promise of Berks County for their 6th Giving Goes Glam Fashion Show. Held at the Reading Public Museum’s Neag Planetarium the annual fashion show promotes local styles from West Reading’s restaurant and apparel businesses.

Choosing a different local nonprofit each year, the L.O.V.E Team of West Reading chose Family Promise of Berks County for this year’s fashion show fundraising recipient. Based out of Reading, Family Promise strives to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through community based response by partnering with community leaders, service providers and a wide network of interfaith volunteers to provide hospitality to those in need.

Elise Chesson, Executive Director of Family Promise of Berks County opened the fashion show with a few motivating words. “We believe families should stay together and not be separated, especially not during the most difficult time of their life. To us, working smart means that every dollar invested, we return an average of three dollars in donated services and goods. We rely on a wide network of congregations and volunteers ready to serve. Volunteers spend an average of 275 hours a week providing meals and shelter while case managers work with families and youth to support them in gaining their independence. Our doors are open, get to know us and together we can make a difference. It’s a community involvement and you are the community”.

West Reading’s fashion apparel wasn’t the only thing Giving Goes Glam showcases. Several of West Reading’s most famous restaurants were onsite to provide unique appetizers and desserts.

The fashion show also included a raffle table from participating businesses and a “gift card tree”. Businesses modeling their apparel included Mixx Boutique, Curious on the Avenue, Pollock Fashion Outerwear, Just Gorgeous, New World Jewellers, A Running Start and It’s A Gift.
