Who doesn’t love Macaroni and Cheese! Forget the boxed stuff, make your own gourmet version at home with an extra crispy crunch. This recipe takes about an hour to make and can serve up to 9 people.
Non-stick Spray for the Pan
1 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
1 Pound Elbow Macaroni
4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
4 Tablespoons All-purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
2 Cups Milk
2 Cups Grated Sharp Cheddar
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
4 Tablespoons unsalted melted butter
Start out by preheating your oven to 350. Next prepare your dish by using non-stick spray. Now cook the macaroni by bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Make sure to cook the macaroni until tender. Cooking time may vary by heat level. Drain and start making the cheese.
To make the cheese, melt the butter in a saucepan. Using a whisk, stir in the flour and salt. Stir and cooking over mild heat for about 3-4 minutes. Slowly whisk in the milk. Keep the pan on low heat to cook and stirring constantly until the cheese sauce thickens. Now add the cheese and macaroni until fully mixed.
For the crunch, stir the breadcrumbs with the butter until the crumbs are soft. Put the macaroni and cheese into a baking dish and add the breadcrumbs on top. Bake in the oven until the sides bubbles around the edges which takes roughly 15-20 minutes.
