Dunkin’ Donates to Greater Berks Food Bank to Help Fight Hunger

This week the Greater Berks Food Bank received a $21,500 donation from Dunkin’ of greater Philadelphia to help fight hunger throughout the region. The donation is a combined effort from Dunkin’s “Roast Hunger” program and Dunkin’s Joy in Childhood Foundation. This donation from Dunkin’ will directly support the food bank’s mission to feed the hungry by acquiring and distributing food to people in need throughout Greater Berks.

According to Greater Berks Food Bank, nearly 71,400 people throughout Berks and Schuylkill counties, of which 24,500 are children, face food insecurity. The Greater Berks Food Bank collects, purchases, stores and distributes over 7 million pounds of food annually to more than 300 community partners throughout Berks, Schuylkill, and western Montgomery Counties.

This year, Dunkin’ raised more than $330,000 through its Thanksgiving Day fundraiser and “Roast Hunger” campaign. Since 2011, Dunkin’ has raised more than $1.5 million through these two initiatives. According to Feeding America, Philadelphia is ranked in the top 10 among the highest number of food insecure cities with approximately one in four people facing hunger on a daily basis.

On Thanksgiving Day, Dunkin’ and it’s Philadelphia-area franchisees donated 10 percent of all coffee sales to regional food banks. Additionally, from Nov. 22 through Dec. 31, DD Perks members could receive a large Hot Coffee when they paid with an enrolled Dunkin’ card. For every “Roast Hunger” offer redeemed, Dunkin’s Philadelphia-area franchisees donated 50-cents to regional food banks.
