Wyomissing based Fox Theatres announces a special Sensory Friendly Movies showing of Beauty and the Beast on Saturday, March 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Fox Berkshire. Three local agencies will be present before the movie to share information on services for individuals with autism and sensory needs: The Autism Society of Berks County, Easter Seals of Eastern PA and Unending Promise, an organization that provides adults living with autism opportunities to learn meaningful skills in a safe and productive environment.

“We’re glad to have three organizations vital to the autism community at this event,” said Don Fox, President of Fox Theatres. “We want all families to have an opportunity to learn more about local programs and to enjoy the latest movie sensation, Beauty and the Beast.”

Fox Theatres began the Sensory Friendly Movies program in January 2016 to give families of children with autism a worry-free morning at the movies. Films are shown in 2D projection with increased auditorium lighting, lower volume and without previews or advertisements. Moviegoers may move about the theater and come and go as needed. Because some have special dietary needs, families are permitted to bring their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks from home. Parents and caregivers can also choose from a full menu of made-to-order American classics at Fox Kitchen, including kid-friendly and gluten-free foods and hot coffee and tea for the adults.

“We’re grateful to Fox Theatres for providing Sensory Friendly Movies,” said Carol Spencer, President of the Autism Society of Berks County. “They offer a comfortable and supportive way for our autism families to enjoy a ‘typical’ family activity without worry or judgement.”

The program schedule was recently changed so families can see the latest G- or PG-rated blockbusters the weekend after they open. The next film in the Sensory Friendly Movies program will be Smurfs: The Lost Village on Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Fox Berkshire.
