What would make 30 people run into the chilly December waters of Blue Marsh Lake? The hope for a better tomorrow for families across Berks County.
Every year, Restoring Hope volunteers changes the lives of one lucky Berks County family by providing a free one-week home makeover inspired by the popular television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Organized by Jackie Mitten, a Restoring Hope Board Member, the 2017 Polar Plunge fundraiser gathered a small group of volunteers, rescue divers and plungers to the waters edge of the Blue Marsh Lake Beach Area. Friends and family members cheered the brave group on as they jumped into the icy cold waters. As you can imagine it was all over in a flash.
After the plunge had a quick chat with Chris Yarosz, 2016’s Restoring Hope recipient who, although cold loves jumping in the water for the cause. “It was great and fun, much warmer than last year. My family has always been one to give back anyway but this is just a bigger opportunity to get involved.”
